Role Play Online Games

How To Play

Begin by selecting a topic from the dropdown menu. The game offers five topics to choose from, including animals, health, jobs, food, and town. This allows for customisation based on students’ interests and learning objectives.

Familiarise students with key words, phrases, and themes related to the chosen topic, ensuring they have the necessary language tools to engage in meaningful conversations.

Selecting Scenarios:

Click on each role play card and ask students to choose a scenario that interests them. Each card represents a unique role-playing scenario for students to enact.

Assigning Roles:

Assign each student a role card, ensuring that everyone has a distinct character or position to portray during the role play. Encourage students to embrace their assigned roles, immersing themselves in the character’s perspective and mindset.

Preparing for the Role Play:

Before starting the role play activity, revise key words, phrases, or themes that students may need to effectively construct their conversations. This revision phase allows students to reinforce their vocabulary, familiarise themselves with relevant language patterns and feel more confident in their speaking abilities.

Setting Time Limits:

Set a time limit for the role play activity, ensuring that students have enough time to engage in meaningful conversations within the given framework.

The time limit adds an element of excitement and urgency to the activity, encouraging students to think quickly and respond effectively.

Online Lesson Considerations:

If the lesson is conducted online, utilise breakout rooms to facilitate the role play activity. Place students in pairs or small groups in separate virtual rooms, allowing them to engage in private conversations. Monitor their progress by visiting each breakout room, offering guidance and noting their language usage and interaction.

Rehearsing and Practicing:

Encourage students to rehearse and practise their role plays within their assigned pairs or groups. This practice phase allows students to fine-tune their dialogue, work on their pronunciation, and gain confidence in their speaking abilities.

Presentation and Feedback:

When the time limit is up, ask students to present their role plays to the larger group. Each pair or group can take turns sharing their conversations, bringing the scenarios to life.

Encourage active listening among the audience and provide constructive feedback to each pair, highlighting their strengths and suggesting areas for improvement.

Reverse Roles and Script Reading:

As a follow-up practice, encourage students to reverse roles and read each other’s scripts. This activity offers a fresh perspective and allows students to further explore different characters and scenarios.
